The Essentials of Travel for Change in Lisbon

The capital of Portugal, Lisbon is a city with a special charm, I always say that it a place with family charm where the picturesque streets of the Alfama neighborhood and the fados will envelop us wherever we walk.

After our trip with SOMOS Community Care I wanted to make a brief Travel for Change guide of the essentials for a single day in Portugal (we could not stay longer this time).

First, I am going to tell you a little about the city. Lisbon is the gateway to Europe through the Atlantic Ocean; it has a unique identity since it became independent from the Spanish empire, being at the time one of the most important kingdoms in the world.

What did we see in Portugal?

Pestana Hotel. Pousada de Lisboa
They are my friends. It is a hotel that, although small, will surprise you with the luxury it exudes, just 9 kilometers from the airport, in the heart of the city, near the castle of São Jorge. I always choose this hotel because when you are working in conferences, the Mice sector and traveling, this kind of place is so valuable because you can use them for a meal with friends, a business lunch or an intimate dinner.

There are also few places in Portugal where they prepare such a good Cod.

City tour In Belem.

Belém is a unique historic district, from its famous tower to the Jerónimos Monastery.
The Tower of Belém is classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1983 and was elected one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal, it is an icon of Lisbon and is located on an estuary, at the mouth of the Tagus River.

Espelho d’Água. Coffee break

Espaço Espelho d’Água is a restaurant and cafeteria located in Belém next to the Tagus River.

It is a modernist building and obtained its name Mirror of the water because it is surrounded by a large space of crystal clear water. It features an art gallery and musical performances, which makes it perfect for organizing conventions or, in our case, having coffee with friends.

Linhares House. Fado restaurant

A restaurant visited by Madonna herself, it is an old building and its facade precedes an eclectic and charming interior, defined by the architecture of other times, in which blue tiles, stone and wood still prevail, all translated into a warm and elegant atmosphere, which today is the scene of Fado.

What is Fado?

Fado is the most internationally known expression of Portuguese music, I can’t explain what it is, you have to feel it for yourself.
