What is The Metaverse and how can it affect travel and conferences?

The Metaverse, also known in Spanish as #Metauniverso, is a concept generally used to describe an immersive and multisensory experience in the applied use of various immersive technological developments on the Internet.

Mark Zuckerberg announced that #Facebook is being renamed Meta, the new vision for a virtual and immersive social network environment, a new virtual world based on augmented reality mechanisms and advanced body sensors.

Does anyone remember the movie Ready Player One?

A virtual world to play games, attend concerts, conferences and above all shopping, lots of virtual purchases

The most obvious question is whether or not any of this will actually replace the need or desire to travel in the real world, will there be new opportunities for tourist destinations?

In my closest circles, when I brought up this conversation, the vast majority have been very pessimistic about it, although I think that if they asked us about teleworking 2 years ago, many of us would not have been able to foresee what has happened due to a pandemic.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, can replace real trips in the same way that nothing can be compared to a real event. However, I believe that technology can complete the user experience very well, you just have to see Travel for Change’s instagram : to see what I am talking about.

We always use #technology to inspire our users and I believe that there is great potential for those of us in travel management, event planning and #MICE to differentiate ourselves from the competition.
